North Austin Influencers™ celebrates one year as a joint mixer to support the future leaders in the Austin community

Business professionals gathered for an evening of networking and philanthropy to celebrate North Austin Influencers (NAI) one year anniversary while raising money for future leaders in the community.

North Austin Influencers consists of members who exchange ideas, learn through educational workshops, and use their expertise in the different fields to enhance leadership skills. This group is for individuals to continue learning in their profession or passions through connection building, self-improvement, using strategies for success, and experience sharing. Monthly professional development programs from expert speakers have ranged in topics such as successful negotiating, profitability through diversity, handling mistakes effectively and improving leadership skills.

The group celebrated many successful achievements in their first year including: a membership of over 400 professionals; media recognition by two local publications, TODO Austin and The Austin Business Journal; and an active network on social media from NAI Google Plus Community to LinkedIn NAI Group. Speakers have ranged from  founder of Social Good Summit Austin; Ruben Cantu on Work From Home Day (WFH) to take more than 10,000 cars off the street on that day; director of the Round Rock Public Library, Michelle Cervantes on Round Rock/Williamson County outreach; licensed clinical social worker and director of volunteers Sonia Kotecha on CASA of Travis County; and founder and publisher of Ujima Magazine, Damita Miller-Shanklin sharing the importance of Black History Month, which helped raise awareness on many initiatives.

Proceeds of more than $1300 from the event were raised to benefit scholarship programs at the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium and The National Black MBA Association Austin Chapter.

By eliminating traditional barriers to higher education and professional success, The Hispanic Scholarship Consortium cultivates leaders ready to meet our community’s most critical needs. What began as a small collaborative group committed to scholarship is now a synergistic organization focused on the academic, leadership, professional and philanthropic development of Central Texas youth with scholarship as a point of entry and source of ongoing support.

The National Black MBA Association Austin Chapter provides access to qualified, diverse individuals; continuous professional development; and educational, career, networking and entrepreneurial opportunities, resulting in economic development for Central Texas members, partners and the community.

Lots of gratitude goes to generous donors who supplied a wide variety of items for the silent auction. Donor companies and individuals were:

North Austin Influencers’ Meetup

By: Monica Peña   (@MUNDUmedia)

Meetup is an online site that facilitates offline group meetings in various localities around the world. The web site allows members to find and join groups unified by common interest, such as books, gender, health, pets, careers or hobbies. Users enter their ZIP code or their city and the topic they want to meet about, and the website helps navigate them to the correct group to join.

I recently decided to create, a Meetup group, North Austin Influencers so that members can exchange ideas, learn through educational workshops, and use their expertise in different fields to enhance leadership skills while discovering my area of town. This group is for individuals to continue learning in their profession or passions through connection building, self-improvement, using strategies for success, and experience sharing.

This group will offer individuals an opportunity to enhance their leadership skills by building relationships with like-minded individuals through:

• once a month mixers in North Austin (including Pflugerville & Round Rock)

• development workshops and/or series

• information on other leadership opportunities in the area

MISSION

Our mission is to bring people together to exchange ideas, learn through educational workshops and mixers using the expertise of top industry professionals while providing marketing opportunities to businesses who host Meet-ups.

The first monthly Networking Mixer is on July 18th at Casa Chapala on Anderson Ln.  COST: $10 prepaid or $15 at the door which includes Nacho bar and Tequila Trivia.  Meet business professionals and executives, business owners and entrepreneurs from a diverse group of industries.  The event hashtag is #Influencers

We look forward to seeing you at Casa Chapala, Home to Austin Tequila Society, a community of tequila aficionados and lovers-of-agave who gather to enjoy tequila in its many forms. The Society’s mission is to promote the enjoyment of tequila as a sophisticated sipping spirit, as well as a delicious base to traditional cocktails (Margarita, Mexican Martini, etc.).

Locally produced Spicy Mama Salsa, the salsa that “gives back”, made with fresh fire roasted chilies, all natural ingredients, gluten free, and fat free will be available for tasting and purchase. 30% percent of profit goes right back into the Austin Community to help EDUCATE, EMPOWER & SERVE the inner city community work through LaunchPad’s youth programs.
